How Did This All Begin2024-08-05T14:13:41+00:00

The idea started in 2014 when the community was offered a retired book mobile by the county.  After community visioning gatherings, a Board was formed to bring the unit (and a part time Library Staffer) to Laytonville.  It was finally delivered in December of 2015!  In February, the County decided they could not, after all, put a county employee in the book mobile.  Of course we were disappointed (understatement of the year!), but we were not deterred!!! The Friends will continue to operate the Book Sale, raise funds and awareness, and provide literacy related services for our community as we search for a site for our own

Volunteer With A Friend2024-08-05T14:14:52+00:00

*Book Room – Duties can include shelving books, taking cash and writing receipts, promoting membership, tidying up, schmoozing with your friends.

* Activities – Do you have a skill or passion you would like to share?  Teach an after-school art class?  Start a book club?  Writer’s workshop?  Knitting Circle? Share your knowledge of an interesting topic?  We have the space for that!

*Behind the scenes – Online Bookstore: fine used books are a great income source for the Friends – can you help?  Includes researching prices, data entry, and/or shipping.

* Fundraising – Periodic help with events – organize or help with Spring and Fall fundraisers – Includes planning, presenting and promoting in a team setting.

*Site Committee – Help with the preliminary research – finding architects, civil engineers, contractors, sign painters, identify suitable sites, etc.  When we find the right location, we want to be ready to move!

*Promotion – Keep us in the public eye!  You might manage our Facebook page, or distribute articles and promo materials to radio and newspapers.  Or… put up posters around town.  Or… help write, print, and mail the Newsletter.
